Wardrobe Planning For Children: The Guide to a child’s wardrobe before you begin to sew.
Here you will learn wardrobe basics and how to personalize your child’s wardrobe. I will give you a few recommended patterns that that will help you get started. You will be able to use these patterns over and over through out your child’s growth cycle. There is also information in the Sewing Reference tab on this site that gives you information on how you can add accent and personalize any wardrobe.
Planning a child’s wardrobe does not mean that all garments must be made at one time. You can begin creating a child’s spring/summer wardrobe in the fall/winter and winter/fall wardrobe in the spring. This way your child will be fully loaded with clothes to wear when the season comes. Make sure that the garments you sew are coordinated by making them more versatile so that they will have a different look with each ensemble.
Wardrobe Basics- The main garments of a child’s wardrobe includes shirts, pants, overalls, a jacket, and for girls, a skirt and jumper. Select a simple pattern for sewing the main garments that varies in fabrics, trims and finishes. You can take patterns and create your own personal touch and finishes making every garment unique and different from the other.
Personalizing- To personalize simple patterns, use coordinating fabrics for color blocking. Use piping to highlight neckline, armholes, side seams or pocket seams. Use appliqués or buttons on shirts to coordinate with pants or skirts.
Kwik Sew Patterns are great for beginners to experts. They have easy to read instructions and have a great layout when creating a wardrobe for all ages.

These books contain master patterns. Everything you need to create a one of a kind wardrobe. Note: You will have to transfer the pattern of choice on the master pattern is one big template of varies different patterns (it contains all the patterns you need to make your wardrobe). In this case, you will have to trace the pattern on choice onto paper.
To do this you will need a tracing wheel, tracing paper, and craft paper or pattern paper.
