December 26, 2007 | Ellisha | Comments 0

Brighten Baby’s day with a colorful cuddle blanket. It is great for stroller rides or to snuggle up to. This blank design is simple and quite easy to create without the use of a sewing machine. You can create several baby blankets and accent it with appliqué.

Supplies Needed:

2 yards of colorful fleece or 1yd of fleece and 1yd of contrasting fleece for a reversible blanket.

Scissors

Clear ruler or rotary ruler

Tailor’s Chalk or Fabric Pen

Applique (optional)

Embroidery Floss for outlining applique

Pinking shears (optional)

Rotary cutter and Rotary mat (optional): use for neat accurate cutting measurements for squares, rectangles, triangles, and long strips quickly.

Cut the Fabric:

Cut 2 pieces of 28 x 35 inches of fleece.

Stitch it up:

  1. With edges aligned, pin the two blanket pieces wrong sides together.
  2. Cut a 3” square from each corner. Then cut 3” long fringes approximately 1” wide along each side of the blanket. Be sure to cut the fringes through both layers of the blanket
  3. Tie the fringes together to secure two blanket pieces.

Tip:

Use applique to accent the fabric. Apply applique before following the stitch up step.

Use embroidery floss for outlining and adding detail to the applique.

Pinking shears will add detail to the fringe on your fleece.
